Outside my window…

Dark, cool…  Fall is always strange in California!  Just had a week of cool weather and storms, now for a week of warmer temps!

I am thankful…

For the little things.  Still…  It’s just about enjoying who we are and what we do!

I am thinking about…
John Lennon, my Grandpa Len…  My dad and my Grandma Betty…  Today would have been John Lennon’s 71st birthday.  Mom and I watched a show about his life tonight.  It’s so sad that he was taken so young.  Tomorrow is the anniversary of my Grandfather’s death.  He was 81.  Although I am thankful that we were able to be with him on his final birthday, and was able to meet his youngest (at the time) great-grandchild, I am sad for my Grandma that she lost the man she spent just over 60 years with.

Learning all the time…
I really should know this one but…  If I want something done, it is best to do it myself…  And when the hubby says he’s got a “project” around the house to do, I should make sure there is nothing in that particular part of the house that I need to take care of first.  Weekends are my time to do laundry…  The washer and drier are in the garage…  Hubby has decided to “organize” the garage…  The washer and drier have not been accessible for over a day!  Good thing I at least got the linens and half of my clothes done!  Too bad my Little is running out of clean clothes, and fast!

From the kitchen…
Oh we are so bad lately!  Still recovering from our illnesses we have been doing very little cooking!  Tonight we had pizza cause Mountain Mike’s does 50% off pizza’s on Sundays.  Mom did come over and bake some cookies, does that count?  Due to lack of motivation I have avoided cleaning the refrigerator…  This will be the first chore on my list, right after a load of laundry is started!

I am creating…
Cleaner spaces.  Although I did not get everything done that I would have liked this weekend I did manage to clean the toys in the living room!  Yeah me!

I am working on…
So much this week!  We would like to have a garage sale this weekend, so I will be busy going through all of our closets weeding out the clothes we just don’t use!  Then on to cleaning up each room of the house.  I read this AMAZING blog post from my cousin about how she cleans house!  Yes, it is an older post (and I found it thanks to her wonderful sissy!) but it was enlightening all the same!  She is able to home school her three kids and still maintain order in the home, breaking down the chores during the week days!  See, I have always focused on Saturday and Sunday being the days for chores, probably because I have either worked or gone to school Monday through Friday.  But on further pondering of her lists, I have come to the conclusion that the reason I don’t get as much done is because we make plans for the weekends, or I am tired from the week!  If I just got up an hour or so earlier in the day I could spread these things out over the week and get things done so I don’t have to worry about wasting my weekend stressing over what is not getting done!  Thank you dear Sarah for your words of wisdom!!!

I am going…
To make a plan this week to do something with my brother’s family and our parents.  My brother leaves for the Army after the first of the year.  I am very proud of him, and I will always support whatever decisions he makes in life but he has been my best friend for 33 years, and I will miss him.  A lot.

I am hoping…
For a little bit of order in our house.  A little cooperation from others.  And a bit of patience for when things don’t go my way and people don’t do what I want them to do!

I am reading…
Ah-ha!  I did read a bit this week!  I was blessed to be given a gift card for Barnes & Noble e-books for my NOOK!  Although I stock up every month on the free-be’s they give away, I had not yet actually purchased a book!  I bought the entire collection of Oz books (15 stories, $2), Wicked (on special for $3), and Son of a Witch ($7.99).  I started reading Wizard of Oz again and will read all 15 of those stories before I re-read Wicked and move on to Son of a Witch.  Hopefully by the time I’m done I will have an extra few dollars to spend on the next book in the series.  Oh how I love those witches of Oz!!!

I am praying…
For families that have lost loved ones too soon, too quickly to say goodbye, and for the families that have lost loved ones and gotten to say all the goodbye’s they need.  With the recent deaths in the media it is important to remember that no matter what we think of people, they had families that loved them.  Not everyone will be remembered throughout history like a famous person, but if we remember to pass on their love, they will be remembered by those that matter.

I am hearing…
Hubby working in the garage.  The t.v. in the other room.  What am I not hearing?  Coughing from my Little girl’s room!  What a blessing that is!  We have been so lucky that other than a small stuffy nose, this is her first real cold.  It just breaks your heart when they are coughing and sniffling and there is very little you can do to make it stop!

Around the house…
Ah the cleaning…  Mommy seems to have taken a bit of a vacation from reality when it comes to house cleaning and although Daddy tries, things just don’t get done in the same way…  So, a thorough house cleaning is in order.

One of my favorite things…
Cinnamon, apples, pumpkin pie.  Although Mother Nature likes to play games with us Californians when it comes to the weather, some of us still know it is Fall.  Thankfully there are candles and other things that can make you feel like you are in the full-on swing of Fall baking without ever turning on the oven!

A few plans for the rest of the week…
Cleaning.  Sewing.  Reading.  Hubby has found some side-jobs to keep him busy and Little has a date with her Grandma and cousin.

Random thought…
Beta fish…  Dad needed someone to take care of the animals this weekend.  I don’t mind taking care of the pets, I just hate having to go out there twice in one day!  First it was because he had a cat that needed two insulin shots a day.  Then, after that cat was gone, they fed the other cats twice a day!  As if that was necessary…  Now they have this dumb beta fish.  Apparently it needs to be fed twice a day…  No bueno!!!  Good thing little brother is sharing the responsibilities!!!

Here are picture thoughts I am sharing with you….
The last birthday we shared with my Grandpa Len and last years service in his honor.

  1. I can't do all of my cleaning on the weekends because then I dread the weekends! 🙂 If I split it up through the week, it seems less daunting somehow, you know?Where do you get the monthly freebies for your Nook? I just got a Nook for my birthday and am really loving it. I'll have to go the the B&N page and dink around to find those freebies.Little girl colds are just sad, aren't they? Here's to hoping your little miss is on the full up-and-up soon!

  2. I had never thought of doing the chores a little bit at a time… It just never even occurred to me that people do that! GENIUS!!! (At least I think so!)Mostly the free books are classics (or sometimes just trash books) but they change them up every once-in-a-while. Which one did you get? I so want the color one now but I just can't justify it! Maybe someday… When you go to the B&N website, oh, just went there, they changed it a bit since the last time I was there. Just type in Free ebooks in the search tab (you can put NOOK books in the drop down if you want) and it will bring up the free books they offer. Hmmm, guess I might need to look a bit, they are offering more stuff than before!
